I am happy to see that at long last our dreams have come true and we are on the verge of inception of Square College of Nursing. Let me express heartiest thanks to all who took initiatives and made tireless efforts in realizing this dream. Historically, modern nursing one of the noblest professions on earth got its momentum during great Crimean war in the middle of seventeenth centurywhen Florence Nightingale, ‘The Lady with the Lamp’ came to prominence while serving the wounded soldiers. Later she laid the foundation of professional nursing with principles summarized in her book, ‘Note on nursing’.  Since then nursing is being recognized as a science and arts in caring ofthe ill. Sometimes we narrow down the perspective of nurses only as a member of hospital staff who offers serviceto patients. But it is larger than that and according to International Councilof Nurses, nursing encompasses collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings.

For decades there has been worldwide shortageof nurses and Bangladesh is no exception. Considering this fact we have aimed to create an environment conducive of producing nurses of world standard who can provide service not only to our people but also to any foreign land when there is a dire necessity to alleviate human sufferings. As we believe, the success of a nation depends highly on the quality of education and we are on a mission to improve it.

My blessings go to all aspirantyoung people who have come forward with intentionof serving humanity through nursing and I sincerely hope to see them grow up with efficiency, dignity and high moral standard.
